Official List of Beretta Models Made Since 1526

Known officially as Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta, the successful Italian firearm manufacturer has been around since 1526, being one of the oldest companies in this industry. It operates in a few different countries, while its firearms are used all over the world.

Many weapons are sold for civilians, but others are specifically made for military and law enforcement professionals. Sporting firearms are more popular than most others, accounting for about 75% of the total sales.

Back in 1526, Beretta models started with arquebus barrels. While records from back then are not 100% clear and accurate, it’s believed the company managed to arm most of the Venetian fleet. Ever since 1650, Beretta has been involved in every big European war.

Over its incredibly long history, the list of Beretta pistols is clearly huge. Some firearms or certain Beretta types of guns have never really made it big tough. All in all, here are all Beretta models ever made and their characteristics.

Revolvers

Revolvers are clearly worth being mentioned, yet Beretta hasn’t excelled in this category. In fact, it has only made three revolvers.

  • Stampede is similar to Colt’s Peacemaker. However, Stampede can safely carry six round magazines. It’s available in three finishes, as well as different grips. It has more variants, such as Old West, Old West Marshal, Buntline Carbine, Gemini, Philadelphia, Deluxe, Inox, and Bisley.
  • Laramie is based on the Smith & Wesson Model 3. It comes with an automatic safety to prevent accidental discharge. It can take .45 Long Colt and .38 Special cartridges, so it’s quite versatile. The rear sight is adjustable.
  • Manurhin MR73 works with two cartridges, .357 Magnum and .38 Special. It’s a French made revolver, both single and double action. It has been in production since 1972 and comes with more variants, such as MR 32 Match or MR 38 Match. Different variants use different calibers.

Machine pistols

Beretta hasn’t paid too much attention to machine pistols. However, there are two such Beretta models out there.

  • M915R works with the 9x19mm caliber and was initially produced between 1949 and 1980. It wasn’t available to civilians, as it was only available to military forces. Italian military forces adopted it as Modello 1951. Some variants include Helwan and M951 Brigadier, among others.
  • 93R is a selective fire unit. Like the M915R, it was created for police and military forces. It was made between 1979 and 1993. The pistol is based on the original Beretta 92 design, but has a few extras. The R stands for Raffica, which defines its burst shooting features.

Semi-automatic pistols

There are a few categories of firearms that make Beretta stand out and semi-automatic pistols represent its main production line. The Beretta pistol models list includes dozens of different models and variants.

  • Model 1915 is a classic, made between 1915 and 1930. It was used in both world wars, with over 70,000 units produced. Variants include M1915, M1915/17 and M1915/19.
  • M1923 was in service between 1923 and 1945. It was produced for the Italian army, but the government purchased less than 30% of the total production of about 10,000 units.
  • 418 is one of the easiest firearms to conceal due to its size. It uses the 6.35x15mmSR caliber and was produced between the 1920s and the 1950s.
  • M1934 is a semi-compact unit made between 1934 and 1991 in more than a million units. It’s one of the most popular firearms in the list of Beretta pistols.
  • M1935 uses the .32 ACP caliber and was quite popular as well, produced between 1935 and 1967 in more than 500,000 units.

70 came out as a replacement for the M1935, so it had a few improvements as well. This gun gained notoriety for being featured in the cinema industry. Each new model in the series had different sizing standards. Altogether, the pistols used more cartridges, .32 ACP, .380 ACP, and .22 LR.

92 is one of the Beretta types with the highest variety. The original unit was introduced in 1976. It was brought into armed forces from more countries, such as Italy and the USA. More than 3.5 million units have been produced so far and it’s still being made.

Some of the most popular types of Berettas in this series include:

Even the 93R machine pistol is often considered a variant of 92. Plus, Beretta 92 has been copied by other manufacturers too, mainly in Brazil, Egypt, South America, and Turkey. These days, forces from more countries rely on it.

Beretta 92 is also known as Beretta 96 and Beretta 98. There are no differences between them, but when shopping, you may find the same firearm under a different name. All these names refer to the same unit, which is one of the most popular releases among all Beretta models.

Px4 Storm is built for both civilians and military forces. It borrows the short recoil mechanism from 8000, while the safety and trigger are taken from 92. It’s in production since 2004 and uses 9x19mm Parabellum, .45 ACP, and .40 S&W cartridges.

Shotguns

Apart from the Beretta handgun models, it’s worth noting that the Italian firearm manufacturer has also focused on shotguns. It mainly created simple, but reliable and durable shotguns.

  • 1200 was mainly produced during the early 1990s and was specifically created with self-defense purposes in mind. Some armed forces adopted it too. It also has a few variants, such as 1200 FP.

Assault rifles

Beretta didn’t excel when it came to assault rifles. However, there are a few Beretta models out there worth some attention.

  • AR70/90 is chambered for 5.56×45 NATO. It can be enhanced with a rifle grenade and it’s the most common service rifle for the Italian army. It also has grenade sights.
  • AS70/90 is based on the AR70/90 is a light rifle chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO. It can fire 800 rounds per minute. Only a few units have been made and not for civilians.

Submachine guns

Beretta models are quite varied and submachine guns were also targeted, with quite a few interesting releases.

A variant of Cx4 Storm is also designed as a submachine gun.

Apart from all these, Beretta has also developed GLX-160. The grenade launcher can’t be used independently, but along with ARX 160.

Bottom line, these are all the types of Berettas out there, as well as the Beretta models for each category. The Italian manufacturer has a few subsidiaries, while some of its firearms are produced under license by other companies.

It’s gained most of its popularity with its wide range of pistols, in all shapes and sizes. However, like its competition, it has also evolved towards other groups of firearms too, such as rifles and shotguns.
